This 1920’s era toaster was manufactured by the Perfection Electric Products Company, New Washington, Ohio. The toaster has a single vertical heating element in the center. Toast was prepared by sliding a piece of bread into the the holder on each side and turning the handle on the top to move the bread close to the heating element. Once one side was toasted, the handle could be turned to reverse the holder thus moving the untoasted side to the heating element. This type of toaster preceded the “pop-up” style toaster with two heating elements that are common today.
