This type of saw was used by the iceman to cut pieces of ice from frozen ponds, lake and rivers. The ice was brought to his ice house and then sold to area farmers for their ice boxes. The ice man eventually disappeared after electricity came to homes. The electric refrigerator (for may years referred to as a “ice box”) replaced the old ice box.
